July Favorites

I’ve sort of been AWOL for a week or so, life decided to throw a curveball of horrible bouts of hay-fever since I’ve been back from Florida. Everyone says it’s been the change of climate, which I can’t understand because Texas is equally as hot and humid. In any case, I’m feeling a whole lot better now and hopefully back on the ball on here. I have so many blogs to catch up on reading!

July has passed by so fast, I feel like it’s only been a week since I did my June favorites post! There’s a few other things I wanted to include in this post but I’m gonna hold off until I use them a bit longer so I can also write a review.

  1. Adidas Superstars ($80.00, Journeys)
Yeah I know, I know. Everyone and their mother has these. I’m late to the game because I sort of resisted in following the trend. I bought my white Old Skool Vans Leather Zip shoes in an attempt to veer off of the normal path, but those have gone completely rotten after so much wear. I figured I might as well get them considering how much I really wanted them after putting it off for nearly two years. I’m still breaking them in, but I love them so much already!
  2. Fossil wallet ($30.00, Fossil)
I’ve been looking for that perfect bag, which has proven to be absolutely impossible considering I’m not exactly a bag person. I haven’t been able to find one, but I did find this gem at the Fossil outlet store near me, at an extremely discounted price. Original cost was $75, which was such a bargain. I’ve only ever had Mighty Wallets so this is my first venture into “adult wallets”. I think it’s super pretty and it’s got so much room!
  3. Apple iPhone 7 Silicone Case, Hot Sand ($35.00, Apple Store)
I got this as a gift from a friend who was donating her old cases, and I love it! I like the texture of the actual case, and considering it’s second hand it’s lasted really well! Again, I’m a bit late on the whole “Millennial Pink” craze, but I feel like it’s a really simple statement trendy case. It isn’t too distracting to have at work and doesn’t look unprofessional at all.

  1. Becca Shimmering Skin Perfecter Highlighter ($41.00, Sephora)
I was a bit nervous with this highlighter because the actual product is pure white, which I somehow wasn’t expecting, but I bought it at the recommendation of a friend, so I took the plunge anyway. I’m really glad I did because I love this highlighter! It takes such a minuscule amount to give a beautiful shimmery effect that I’m sure this will last ages, so it’s definitely worth the price.
  2. OPI Nail Lacquer, Samoan Sand ($9, Target)
My nail varnish of choice this month! I’ve been loving a bit of a nude nail color lately, which honestly is such a me thing. I think I might venture into something different this week considering I’ll be traveling to tropical locations soon.
  3. Velour Liquid Lipstick, Gemini ($18.00, JS Cosmetics)
I got this as a Christmas gift a long time ago, but I’ve recently dug it out and been using it a lot lately. I’m not a big fan of buying from this line, just because I’m not such a huge fan of the person behind them, but the lipsticks are incredible, so I do, begrudgingly recommend.
  4. EOS Shave Cream Pomegranate Raspberry, Travel Size ($2.50, Target)
I have this in full size as well, but I’ve bought the travel sized one to take on my trips this summer because I absolutely love it! My legs feel so much smoother when using it and the smell is so gorgeous. I do love everything raspberry, to be honest.
  5. Origins Drink-Up Intensive Overnight Mask ($17.00, Sephora)
I mentioned this in my Flight Travel Essentials post a while back, but it’s on this list for another reason completely! This mask saved my nose. Having such intense hay-fever had me rubbing at my nose with napkins all day and within three days my nose was raw and cracked and in so much pain. I chucked a bit of this on the area for about an hour and my nose was quite literally resurrected from the jaws of death, it was so incredible. The mask itself is really good for regular night-time hydration masks but I’m so happy that I tried it on my nose because it worked like a charm.

That’s about it! I opted for keeping it short this time around because something tells me that August is gonna be a massive one. Hope you all have been doing well! I’m going on holiday again in a few days, but I plan on having a few posts going up in my absence just in case I’m not able to get Wifi in another country.

Bunches of love, cant wait to see all your July favorite posts! Please link me in the comments if you’ve put one up recently, I’d love to read them. xx

Mini Haul – H&M and Forever21

A few days ago, I decided to make the trip to our closest H&M – only an hour drive away. I don’t know why I wanted to go so badly. It might be all the talk about H&M online: I’ve never been able to step foot in one! Also, I’d recently got new tires on my car just begging for a bit of a roadtrip – but really, I’d make up any excuse to go for a long drive, honestly.

I’m not exactly a slim girl, before we start. Which is mostly why I wanted to go in and try on clothes beforehand because I’m smack in the middle of “normal” sizes and plus-sized clothing, and often times that spectrum can be weirdly limiting. Plus size clothing will fit me too big, and the normal sized clothing won’t fit my boobs. It’s horribly inconvenient.

In any case, I’m glad I went, because now I have a better idea of how H&M sizing works and I can give online shopping a go! (yay)

  1. Black (H&M $13) – Simple black shorts that I’ve been desperately in need of for a while. I’ve been needing to stock up on shorts since vacations are nearly here and I do not plan on walking around amusement parks in Florida humidity with full-on long jeans all day. These were nice and simple, they had a cute little cuffed hem at the bottom and they’re super comfortable. Got them in size 14.
  2. Blue/White Stripes (H&M $18) – Banker stripes! I’ve been meaning to get something with a print like this for a month and a half or so, because they’re such a trendy thing going on at the moment. Plus, this was a bit cooler than getting plain ol’ jean shorts. Side note: can I just say how much I love H&M for carrying size 14, I want to kiss them for it! Got these in size 14, as you might have guessed.

  1. Dusty Pink Basic Tee (H&M $13) – I loved this top, it’s a bit cropped so it’ll be so cute to wear with either high-waisted shorts or dungarees. The material is very lightweight and airy, so it’ll be perfect for hot summer weather. Got it in a size Medium. I think it was meant to be oversized but I preferred the Medium fit over the Large.
  2. Striped Knit Top Navy/Yellow (F21 $13) – Every time I buy a horizontal striped shirt I remember my high school teacher telling me that horizontal stripes don’t help you look any slimmer. God I hated high-school teachers with a penchant for backhanded compliments it was the worst. Anyway, whenever I do buy one I metaphorically flip the bird at their aura wherever they might be today. Something about horizontal stripes has always felt a bit nostalgic to me, and I’m not sure why. Maybe I wore them a lot as a kid? In any case this shirt is wonderful, really stretchy material. Got it in a size Large.

  1. Knit Top Bodysuit Navy/Cream (F21 $13) – Ha, I did say I liked horizontal stripes didn’t I? I didn’t realize this was almost the exact same pattern as the shirt until I was paying at the register, go figure. I love that this bodysuit has snaps at the bottom, which will really come in handy when it comes to using the toilet. I’ve also been trying to incorporate a little bit more yellow into my wardrobe. I read somewhere that it can encourage a bit more cheerfulness into life, which I could never say no to. My current wardrobe is very monochrome. Got this bodysuit in a size Large
  2. Ruffled Black Bodysuit (H&M $18) – I LOVE THIS! It’s a bit pushing my comfort zone, honestly, I usually don’t wear clothing that show much cleavage. But I’m excited to wear this on holiday in Mexico hopefully. I’m trying to push myself to be a bit more comfortable in my skin, so I’ll probably be blogging about that now and then. I love the ruffle detail, it looks lovely on, I’m just obviously concerned about a boob popping out! Got it in a size Large (as opposed to an XL) to try and keep everything tucked in.

  1. Black Floppy Felt Wide-Brim Hat (F21 $20) – Listen, I didn’t even mean to buy this. I put it on when I entered the store and still had it with me when I got to the register, and I just had to! Honestly, I’d never been able to find a M/L hat in store that I actually like, so I took it out of sheer disbelief that they actually had any. My head’s a bit too large for the normal sized ones, and even then I think this one fits a bit snug. Either way, I’m definitely taking this with me to Mexico, I love it.

That’s it!

I was really saddened to find out that the Forever 21 45-minutes from my house has closed down recently, so I had to go to an outlet store close by, which was fine but they didn’t have as many summer clothing as I would’ve hoped. I hear they might open one closer to my house soon, so I can’t wait to be able to go browsing without the hour long drive. If not, well there’s always online shopping.

Thanks if you stuck around and read through this post, and extra thanks to anybody that’s been commenting, liking, or following my blog! I’ve only been at this for a week but I’m planning on blogging being a permanent part of my life, so it’d be lovely to meet some friends.

If you’ve got a blog or know or a blog I should follow please leave the url in the comments below. Also any thoughts on the haul would be greatly appreciated. Much love! xx

Recent Splurges

If you’re my mother reading this, please click out of the page or look away! I’m a fiscally responsible person, I swear, and this information would probably bore you anyway.

Here’s the thing: my mother still hounds me when I make an unnecessary purchase above $100. And if she has no idea about it, I’m haunted by the guilt of spending that much money on something I don’t exactly Need, but desperately want.

The first, I bought a few months ago. You wouldn’t have been able to persuade me not to buy the Snapchat Spectacles, if I’m honest with myself. They’re … spectacular! And I’m not just making a stupid pun there, they’re legitimately one of the coolest things I’ve owned.

Vending Machine

Snapchat Spectacles vending machine at SXSW 2017

Initially, I bought them because I missed the golden opportunity to buy them at SXSW this year. I was so irritated that I had arrived only three days after the vending machine was available to the public! Then one day, while I was browsing my friends’ stories on Snapchat, I found an ad for them to be bought online. Before I knew it, the Spectacles were in my online shopping cart, the credit card info was typed in, and I was given a confirmation email. A true impulse buy.

I love them! They retail at around $130.00 online, and comes with the Spectacles in the color of your choice, a charging station that also doubles as storage case, and charging cable. The box itself holds enough battery to charge the Spectacles four times, so it’s perfect for travel. I’m especially excited to use these during vacations for POV shots, and saving phone battery. Using the spectacles to record your snaps means you can quit opening the app every time there’s a ‘snapchat moment’ and focus on life as it happens. Later, all you have to do is synch the glasses to your phone through bluetooth and they’ll be submitted with correct time stamps.

I’ve also found that these sunglasses are such a great conversation starter. I’ve had Starbucks baristas ask me to model how to use them by filming them making my drink. They look stylish with most casual outfits and the cool views you get with these glasses are truly one-of-a-kind.

My second purchase was a new comforter. This was at least partially excused: I needed a new comforter badly. I’ve bought three comforters within the past year, not because I love them so much, but because they all wear out so quickly! I put my foot down and decided that this time around I was going to bite the bullet and buy a comforter that was worth spending for.

And that’s when I saw the Valencia Space Dyed Comforter from Urban Outfitters. I had my own qualms about buying from them, but the comforter itself looked so comfortable I needed to have it. It lingered in my shopping basket for two weeks before I got an email that bedding was on sale mid-June.

With the discount, and plus all the fees, I ended up paying about $130 for the comforter. I guess the photo deceived me into thinking I would be getting the pillow shams as well, so I was slightly disappointed when it arrived. My own fault for not reading the item description. That aside, THIS COMFORTER IS A MARVEL. I absolutely adore it, it’s genuinely the most comfortable thing I have ever slept on. I went on a bit of a nesting craze after it arrived and ended up buying new sheets and pillowcases (grey jersey style) at Target for $30.

I have never slept better in my life. I’m thinking of investing in some new pillows when the school year starts up again, goodness knows I’ll be needing my sleep.
